IceQuacker120 FAQ's
“How Big of a Hole Will the IceQuacker120 Open Up in the Ice?"
It depends on several factors.
How deep is the water you are putting the IceQuacker120 in? Water that is 12" deep under the ice is about 1 or 2 degrees warmer than the ice, or it would be ice as well!
Deeper water can be 6-8 degrees warmer than the ice; this doesn't sound like much, but warmer water melts surface ice a lot faster than water that is only 1 degree warmer than the ice.
Other factors include air temperature, wind speed, how thick the current ice is (thicker ice actually insulates the water below better), if the sun is out, and more.
In summary, there is no formula, and it depends on all these variables.
"What Does the IceQuacker120 Need for Deeper Water To Be Used?"
"Other Ice-Melting Products Need an Additional Frame To Be Used in Deeper Water. What does the IceQuacker120 Need for Deeper Water?"
We designed the frame for use just as it is with relatively shallow water; nothing else is needed.
If you want to use it in deeper water, the frame is designed to clamp onto t-posts (you provide those) so that you can raise the IceQuacker120 off the bottom.
You might need some stakes or short t-posts to anchor the IceQuacker120 in shallow waters; it depends on what the bottom of the pond/lake/river is like: hard bottoms or sand, and the unit slides around.
If you have a lot of mud, it might* sit still on its own. We recommend anchoring it down either way.
"Do IceQuacker120 Blades Break Very Often?"
No.
With the IceQuacker120's cage and weed-cutting blade, not much ice makes it through the cage, and the blade cuts algae, "seaweed," rice, and corn debris pretty easily.
"Can I Extend the Power Cord? Do You Sell Extension Cords?"
We don't recommend extending the power cord, and we don't sell extension cords.
The problem is the voltage drop. Extending the power cord reduces the power getting to the motor, which reduces its effectiveness and might burn up the motor.
We suggest you use the IceQuacker120 as it comes.
You CAN shorten the power cord if you like, if you end up with too much cord for your application (get a pro to do this).
